Big Beaver’s history

Big Beaver is an organized hamlet in the Rural Municipality of Happy Valley No. 10, sitting at the junction of Highways 18 and 34. The Big Muddy Badlands lie to the north along Highway 34, while to the south, at the end of that highway, is the Big Beaver border crossing into the United States. The port closed to northbound traffic in 2011 and to southbound traffic in 2013.

Today the community is home to Big Beaver Regional Park, which has a picnic area and a campground. Big Beaver has also made its way into popular music: it is mentioned in Warren Zevon's song "Hit Somebody (The Hockey Song)" from his 2002 album My Ride's Here, which featured vocals by David Letterman.
